The Gift of God’s Love is for Everyone

The world has always had its share of challenges and problems. Throughout the history of mankind, we have seen poverty, famine, conflict, and frequent wars that often result from different beliefs, cultures, or a selfish desire to dominate and control other people.

These days it seems as though those forces are more pervasive than ever. We continue to experience poverty, famine, and war; and despite the fact that technology has helped us be more connected than ever, we seem to be falling further apart.

We are able to see what happens around the world almost instantaneously, giving us the opportunity to share that news and comment on it. Unfortunately, in many circumstances, this is done in a manner that is combative and divisive. You might be asking yourself what can we do about this, and what does it have to do with Christmas?

As we approach this Christmas season and spend so much time decorating the house and finding that perfect gift for our family and friends, please remember this:

The perfect gift, that of God’s love in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ, is for everyone!

It doesn’t matter where you come from, how rich or poor you are, what job you hold, or what you believe. As the angel said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people” (Luke 2:10 NIV).

That doesn’t mean that this good news is just for you and me; it’s for absolutely everyone. The joy that we know can be experienced by  anyone who wants it.

God chooses to share the news of His Son’s birth with the lowly shepherds, emphasizing that our Saviour came to this earth for all of us, and we see this in Luke 2:8-18.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,
“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

Better than any gift you could find in a store is that of God’s grace and the joy that is found in the knowledge of His love. What a privilege it is to share it during this Christmas season!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
