You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness (Psalm 30:11 NKJV).
It has been a difficult season. A young man from our church family, and a close family friend, passed away suddenly. Then devastating floods swept through Niagara, damaging many homes, including mine. As I pulled up ruined carpet and damaged drywall, grief and frustration could have taken over.
Instead, something unexpected happened. The Spirit of God met me. He did not remove the pain, but He changed my perspective. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV). Those words became an anchor. I was reminded that God is with us in every storm and is working to restore all creation to His intended purpose. The young man for whom we grieve is with Jesus. That is not wishful
thinking; it is hope anchored in the death and resurrection of Christ. My home will be repaired. And even in the damage, I have seen God at work through family, friends, and our church community surrounding one another with love and support. What looked like a setback became an opportunity to witness God’s faithfulness.
Perhaps you are facing your own storm today. Invite the Holy Spirit into your grief, disappointment, and uncertainty. Ask Him to reveal His presence. Your hope is not anchored in what you see, but in the One who sees you. Sometimes God changes our circumstances. Sometimes He changes us in the middle of them. Either way, He is making all things new.
