Day 41 – The Applause
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

Welcome to the final stretch of our Lent journey! Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored a range of powerful truths designed to strengthen your faith and ignite your spirit. Together, we’ve refocused our hearts and realigned our minds, embracing the freedom and purpose found in Christ.
Lent isn’t just a tradition to remember Jesus’ fast—it’s a season of preparation. It’s a time to reflect, recalibrate, and ready ourselves for Holy Week, when we commemorate the most profound events in history: the crucifixion and the victorious resurrection of our Saviour. Let’s enter this sacred week with hearts full of awe and anticipation for what God is doing in and through us!
Yesterday, we celebrated Palm Sunday—the day Jesus entered Jerusalem to the cheers of the crowd. Matthew 21:9 paints the vivid scene: palm branches waving, shouts of “Hosanna!” ringing through the streets. The people celebrated His arrival with joy and admiration. Yet, within days, their cries of “Hosanna” turned to “Crucify Him!”
What changed? How did Jesus respond?
Jesus knew exactly what awaited Him, yet He remained steady. While the crowd’s adoration might have dazzled others, Jesus stayed focused. He didn’t seek their approval; His eyes were fixed on the Father.
If we live for the applause of people, we’ll find ourselves on unstable ground. Human favour is fleeting, like waves that rise and fall with the tide. Jesus didn’t come for popularity—He came to fulfill a mission. He came to rescue us, heal the brokenhearted, and set captives free. His purpose wasn’t to bask in the cheers of the crowd but to reflect and glorify His Father.
Following Jesus isn’t always easy or popular. At times, it feels lonely, especially when the world’s applause fades. But we’re called to live for an audience of One. When we seek the Father’s approval above all, we find true peace and purpose.
As we walk through Holy Week, take a moment to reflect: Are you chasing the applause of others, or are your eyes fixed on the Father? Release the fear of others’ opinions and embrace the security found in His approval.
When the crowds fall silent, let’s live for the voice that truly matters. Let heaven one day say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
This Lent, as we prepare for Easter, may we remember the steadfastness of Jesus and commit to walking in the freedom and purpose He has given us.
