Day 43 – Pouring Out
While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head … “She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”
– Matthew 26:7, 12-13 (NLT)
This moment paints a breathtaking picture of worship—an act of complete surrender and extravagant love. A woman, broken in spirit yet bold in faith, pours out her most valuable possession on Jesus. She holds nothing back.
Her act challenges us. How often do we sing of God’s limitless love yet respond with caution, holding parts of ourselves back? How often do we pray for all of Him while offering Him only fragments of ourselves?
The woman’s story inspires gratitude but also compels self-examination. It reminds us that salvation isn’t something to take lightly. We have been forgiven much, redeemed completely, and set free eternally. Our response to this truth should overflow with the same kind of unreserved love and gratitude she demonstrated.
Her worship was lavish, bold, and unrestrained. She poured out everything without hesitation or contingency. While our culture tells us to hold back, stay composed, and protect our interests, her act reflects a countercultural truth: real worship requires going all in.
When we filter our response to God through the ever-changing values of the world, we dilute it. But when we fix our eyes on the truth of who He is—His grace, goodness, and ultimate sacrifice—our gratitude spills over in unreserved worship.
This story echoes the heart of Lent and Easter. Jesus gave everything for us, holding nothing back as He journeyed to the cross. He poured out His life so we could experience forgiveness, freedom, and hope.
So, what can we pour out for Him today? What are we holding back that He deserves?
Lord, thank You for pouring out Your love so extravagantly through the sacrifice of Jesus. Forgive us for the times we have held back in our worship and gratitude. Stir in us a boldness to pour out everything for You—our time, talents, treasure, and hearts. May we live with unrestrained gratitude, reflecting Your love to the world. This Lent, help us walk in the fullness of surrender, preparing our hearts for the joy of Easter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
